Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, an American “garage folk” band, just came out with their new CD Baby 81 and the best place to hear the whole thing is on New CD Friday on May 4th.
Their fourth studio release is a great compilation of new music pulsing with excitement. On New CD Friday we always try to mix up what we play and this week will be moving more towards the rock side of the spectrum.
For a preview of the album log onto the band’s myspace page and hear the whole thing, then listen on Friday for the commentary that makes New CD Friday great.

This week on New CD Friday we’re featuring another band from Orange County, California.
Mêlée’s major record label debut Devils & Angels is sure to be a listener favorite. Mêlée’s lead singer has often been compared to the great Daryl Hall. This new CD embraces that by ending with a cover of the Hall and Oates hit “You Make My Dreams.”
Be sure that you listen in for a New CD Friday featuring a band that is bound for great things, and you can say that you heard it first here on the Choice.

4/13/07 - Limbeck / Limbeck
As an indie band from Southern California, Limbeck has to be unique to not just blend into the crowd. Their self-titled album released April 10th really shows just how different they can be.
They cross lines and carve their own genre of “alternative country music.” The band embraces their California roots so much as to even mention the names of Orange County interstates in many of their songs. Be sure to be listening for hints of their past, and the incredibly catchy and unique style during Limbeck’s new self-titled CD.

3/30/2007 - Neil Young / Live at Massey Hall (1971)
On January 19, 1971, Neil Young performed at Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada. This new CD is a recording of that concert. Neil Young was performing solo that evening in Toronto, playing many of his well-known songs like "Down by the River," "Ohio" and "I Am a Child." But he also included several new originals that would be featured on his next new album, Harvest, which had not been released yet, like "Old Man," "The Needle and the Damage Done" and "Heart of Gold." The audience had not heard any of these before, and the night was an historic and moving performance for all.
Be sure that you are ready for a mindblowing CD that reached #1 in Canada with 11,000 units sold in its first week and #6 in the US with 57,000 sold. Neil Young's Live at Massey Hall is a perfect profile of a prolific singer. |

3/23/2007 - Kaiser Chiefs / Yours Truly, Angry Mob
The Kaiser Chiefs, a New Wave rock band from Leeds that formed in 1997 are ready to release their second studio album. Yours Truly, Angry Mob follows up their hit debut album Employment. The lead off track “Ruby” is number one in the UK and quickly moving up the US charts into the top twenty-five. Not bad for a band named after a South African soccer club. This album features all of the things you loved about Employment, but still allows for new depth from the Kaiser Chiefs. They built upon their success by releasing a quality album. If the Kaiser Chiefs just keep improving then I can't wait for their third album, and the second isn't even in stores yet. |

3/9/2007 - Anberlin / Cities
Cities by Anberlin sold 34,000 copies in its first week of release and debuted at #19 on the Billboard 200 chart, it also reached up to number 7 on the iTunes Top Albums chart. It was released in the US as scheduled on February 20th, 2007, and some pre-orders were even bundled with a seven-inch collector's vinyl EP. A special edition version of the album was also released containing additional songs and a bonus DVD.
When making the album, Anberlin asked fans to message their phone numbers to the band through their message board so that they could call the fans and ask for advice on this album. Obviously this is a very fan-inspired album, featuring tracks like Godspeed and Adelaide. It is a driving rock album, and the best so far for Anberlin, so be sure to check this one out. |

3/2/2007 - Arcade Fire / Neon Bible
The second album from Montreal's Arcade Fire exceeds all expectations. With string and orchestral arrangements by two of the band members, Neon Bible is full of both half-assed punk rock mistakes and meticulously orchestrated woodwinds. Processed strings and mandolin. Quiet rumbles and loud rumbles. But mostly just eleven songs that the band thinks are really good.
